Shock and horror are two words that we use together to describe a bad situation. To our shock and horror means when we get a nasty or bad surprise. Adverse weather is opposite of what you're expecting, it's going to spoil your fun. A menacing storm is something that is going to threaten you like a gnarly dog growling at you in the street. Imminent danger refers to an imminent danger of a very heavy storm which could happen immediately.
