Investing when you're in a heightened emotional state can lead to bad decisions. I saw some of this during that meme stock frenzy in 2020, where people's goals sort of became sticking it to the hedge funds and Wall Street. It obviously blew up in their face, but their goal seemed to not be anything to do with their personal situation or accumulating money. But these kind of emissions can be costly - getting started too late is one example.
