When we left The Kinks at the end of 1964 they had just recorded their first album. That album was not very good, but did go to number 3 in the UK album chart. You Really Got Me have been a genuinely revolutionary hit record. From mid 1963 through to the end of 1967 though literally the only things to get to number 1 on the album charts were The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Monkeys and The Soundtrack to The Sound of Music.
