The only cover version of American Pie to actually chart is the one done by Madonna who recorded it for her 2000 movie The Next Best Thing with Rupert Everett. Tom McLean admitted to nearly singing Weird Al's lyrics in concert because his children played the song so often. Heigel: "I haven't caught this one in a while or ever but that's interesting"
