i'm a big fan of production design, i think, for these reasons that you're describing. It creates a kind of um in every day that doesn't fetishize the heroic. I always thought star trek as a kid was too antiseptic - it wasn't. And there's all this stuff in luka where life wants to deal with the cage and fall out one by one.
