The Disadvantages of Deviation From Expectations of Shakespeare
Shakespeare is as canonical in the sense of being big and important as probably as you can get, maybe other than the Bible. I think it's important to talk about the ways in which deviation from expectations of Shakespeare can sometimes be punished. There are certain phytocritics and newspapers in London who will mark down a play or comment negatively on a play if it casts,. say, a black woman in a leading Shakespearean role.
