I feel like part of this also exists on a level that has a lot to do with socioeconomics. I knew growing up 30 DJs, 15 of whom I would easily say could kick my ass into DJ when they were in a battle but you have to get a job. Oftentimes, particularly with black and brown queer people, they were excised from the homes. So they live it on the street. They are trying to cobble together a sense of expression from whatever they can, however they can, whenever they can. That's hard.
