Jesse Jackson's Appeal to the White Working Class
Jesse Jackson's campaign in the 80s was also an attempt to class based politics. Jesse Jackson cobbled together what he called a rainbow coalition, that's when it was cold. That's a prefigurement of identity politics, rainbow coalition. Bernie's was straightforward, old fashioned class politics. So I would say yes, there was appeal by Jesse Jackson to white workers. He tried. Successful. But we live in completely different times. And so Bernie's appeal was much more widespread than Jesse Jackson's.
