Why Should We Trust Our Intuitions?
Why should we trust our mathematical intuitions or the mathematical concepts born of them? Because i understand why we should trust these things. Pragmatically, it seems to work. But as a matter of epistemology, why should we trust the picture of reality that math allows us to bring into view? In fact, we should expect them to be overturned at some point. So we shouldn't be trusting them in the sense of thinking they're true for no good reason. Trust is a word that's kind of like faith. We should rely on the theory. Why? Because it solves the problem. It's the only thing you've got to go on in almost all cases. Akaw
