There was not a lot of evolutionary thinking there, because underlying that behavior est ethos was the idea that human beings were something like a blank slate. And so if humans don't have pretty interesting and complex psychological adaptations for mating, then we're kinded out of business. So as a psychologist trained in an empirical tradition, you have to test these things. And what i realize is that there were almost no empirical tests of these evolutionary hypotheses when i started.
