Diane Ravitch: I noticed two kinds of anxiety. One was the anxiety about silence, just about being in a room and worrying about whether you have the mental, intellectual, cognitive strength that maybe you think would be required for this exercise. The second source of anxiety that i noticed,. i didn't realize how much drama students have about reading. Students who were told by a teacher at some point, that they weren't good enough for reading. Those things leave an imprint. And what i realized over the course of this the simester is just how many students are walking around with those imprints on their shoulders.
