The Function of Mythology and the Family
The principle problem with the human being is that he is born 12 years too soon. An infant is utterly dependent for 12 years at least and doesn't reach physical maturity until the early 20s. At a certain period every stimulus response has to be transformed into the assumption of authority self responsible authority so that you don't drag over parental imagery into your later years. The myth is something to mature your consciousness related to its tasks in life. It was cathartic to the society and held you there for the time of your mature life. Then comes this dreadful thing where just as soon as you learn how to do everything the society wants, it doesn't want you anymore. You're through.
