The German Electoral System: What Went Wrong?

The Christian Democrats had kind of the worst result with about 23%. So they're kind of behind the social Democrats, which was kind of an upset for the party. And you could see that they already triggered quite some discussions inside of the party. How could we lose, especially because Angela Merkel, who's a member of the Christian Democratic Party, was very popular until the end?
