Ida Lupino was the only prominent female film director of her day. Born in 1918 to actor comedian Stanley Lupino and tap dancer Connie Emerald Lupino. At 12, she convinced her parents to let her quit school so she could get an acting job. She earned her first big movie role due to a cruel accident of nepotism.
