Nietzsche's Modern Opera Is Totally Unmusical
All genuine art or all true art basically come out of these two impulses which are in some sense I mean again we might refer to what Nietzsche spoke of earlier where he talked about the subjective artist as the poor artist. The contemporary opera in his view is thoroughly unmusical and his reason for saying this is that the representative style puts a premium on the listener understanding the words. It's an interl-like intellectualizing of the artistic and taking the techniques of art which have been developed and utilizing the technique for ends which are consciously directed and which are consciously sculpted.
