The Death Connection in Shamanic Initiation

Gregory Shushan has done a lot of work with indigenous near death experiences. In some cultures, the initiatory experience or the aftermath would often seem like madness to an outsider. The idea was that framework to incorporate them into a dialogue between these two different worlds. But it does seem that there is an effort to push you into the same realm that you might get from a near death experience.
