Is Turnover in Archaeology a Concern?
The locus of archeological practice in the field has shifted from universities and the museums to the private consulting firms. Most of archaeology that gets done to day is mandated by either federal or state or local laws. And as a university professor, i'm very concerned with training a new generation of archaeologists to accurately identify pottery. I've been doing this for quite a long time, and i can see that in the future we're going to need these kinds of visually assisted graphic aids to help teach.
