In World War II, Ansel Keys developed the K-Rashin to great acclaim. He saw millions of people suffering from severe malnutrition. So he designed an experiment in which 36 subjects would be fed at least three full meals a day for six months. Each participant would be tested on a regular basis through the long winter and following summer. After stabilization, each man would lose 25% of his ideal weight with severe calorie restriction.
