The Importance of Culture in the Tour De France
In the book, you call it a cultural juggernaut. And I hadn't quite realized how kind of important it is to the sort of life and the psyche of the country. De Corne was the editor of a newspaper called La Tour that set up the Tour de France in order to increase its circulation and its profile. But he also set up and edited a newspaper called Commudia, which was an arts newspaper. There was none of this divide that perhaps we all knew at school growing up in the UK if that's where we did.
