Mental Health in the Context of Imperialism
Mental health is profoundly shaped by the social context in which we live. Any oppressive society whatsoever will have its own disastrous effects on those who have within it. The colonial context that fenan describes maps onto the united states in an incredible amount of ways. We see many forms of mental illness that develop really directly as a result of the ongoing colonization which occurs today. Police shootings are racially motivated where police officers kill african diaspora and indigenous communities at staggeringly high rates.
