Carlos Gutierrez: It's almost eight years to the day that we did a panel very similar to this one when you were first elected and you've been on City Council eight years at this point. So I wonder if you could reflect maybe on the electoral side as somebody who has been a kind of champion of this kind of movement spirit before it was cool in the city. "There would be no progressive movement that is taking over City Hall without a fighting militant rank and file led union," he says.
Featuring Stacy Davis Gates, Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, and Alex Han on how Chicago's labor left took over City Hall. Brandon Johnson's mayoral victory, the product of a decade-plus of social movement union struggle, is a model for the left everywhere in the United States. Guest hosted by Micah Uetricht.
