In the early universe, when we look back to these extremely high redshifts, one of the most interesting things that we can look for is where this 21 centimeter emission has disappeared. That tells you that that's a location where you actually have formed a lot of stars, because now these atoms aren't neutral anymore. They are ionized over there.
