I think emotion plays a role. Something is happening in our life that emotionally was congruent, that something happened in another person's life many, many years ago. And this constellation creates some sort of a match. Once people know they're going to survive, they make choices on the basis of beauty or aesthetics. This accounts to a large degree for mate selection. Men want a woman who will bear children and who will pass on the genes women want men who not only will provide for them, but will be a good mate.
