The Effects of Skin Biopsies on Synuclein Deposition
In these particular cohorts we did three skin biopsies we did one by the neck and then two sites in the leg approximate on a distal site. We found far more exponentially greater amounts of synuclein across all three biopsies than with Parkinson's disease. In Parkinson's disease there tended to be a mild but length dependent small fiber neuropathy that was present this was not seen in patients with msa. The study allowed us to separate between these groups very effectively and so it was greater than 95 percent sensitivity to separate specificity for each patient. It could also look at additional information in these skin biopsie they contain small sensory fibers the intraepidermal nerve fibers they also contain
