The Politics of Electing DA's
Alvin Bragg is bringing charges at the same time that he's prosecuting what even some of Donald Trump's biggest critics admit is a pretty weak case against him. I have read suggestions in a few places lately that those kinds of political motivations are a good argument for why we shouldn't have popularly elected DA's. That it'd be better to move to something like the federal system where these are appointed positions and the executive can be held accountable. John Avlon: Both systems have infinite imperfections associated with their operation. The structural remedies are extremely, or the structural choices are extremely iffy both way.
