Head Coverings in 1 Corinthians 11

There is a question in 1 Corinthians 11 whether Paul's even talking about head coverings, veils, or just women having long hair. The head coverings does seem to be tied up with certain cultural practices of that day. In the Greco-Roman world, married women, especially higher status married women would wear a veil as a symbol that they're married. Women who were single or even just sexually available, including prostitutes, slave women, I think would be included in this. They wouldn't veil. So there could be some rich applicability of this passage to Christians living in that kind of culture. But if a culture doesn't, like the Western American culture, North American culture
