His notion was that the body was a microcosm of universal harmony. So in a way it was an analogy for all that was perfect in nature. He refers to Pythagoras and Plato, the idea of perfect numbers as being found in human form. Also, he states that geometry comes from the human form - Leonardo's homocodratus figure without spread arms and legs inscribed within a circle and square.
