I Think the Real Skill of Satire Is the Velvet Glove Inside of Which Is the Fist
For me the real skill of satire is witty it doesn't have to make me laugh out loud but you know that sort of uncomfortable ry smile when you kind of read a satirical piece of writing. I think Paula does that so brilliant in in Mona when she skewers the kind of convention of prize ceremonies especially when they're international and they bring all the authors enforce them into the pigeonholes of their own identities She's very very ry about that in a way that's very funny But I was also thinking I think that's easier to achieve with readers or an audience who are intimately connected to the world that you're satirizing because otherwise those nuances are going to get lost aren't they
