The Importance of Community Control in the Black Community
Historically Black communities have been subjected to economic exploitation with businesses and financial institutions often taking profits out of the community. In a cooperative model, members work together to achieve common goals and share the benefits and risks of a business equally. The governance structure of a cooperative typically involves a board of directors who might, who elected by members make strategic decisions on behalf of the cooperative.
