The goal of stoic practice far exceeds the personal equanimity that we can gain through the discipline of assent and desire. Stoics do not retreat from society to find peace of mind. They stand in the midst of the chaos and work toward the common goals of human rshing and justice. Human excellence demands it. Humans are social creatures. We are not intended to live in isolation.
