The Origins of the Norse Commonwealth in Eastern Europe
Around this time in the eight hundred sixties the village of kiev on the jnepa river rose to become a regional power maybe because of continued migration and settlement from skandinavia. The ruling dynasties in these villages were of norse extraction rather than slavic but nonetheless either way it seems that there was some migration and interpenetration of norse and slavs. A few rune stones with norse runic inscriptions have been found around eastern europe one of them as far south as the shore of the black sea.
