The mystery of Flight 980 has been dormant for close to three decades. It was only because of global warming that Mount Elomani's glacier had begun to melt, and lose its grip on the crash plane. The search area wasn't actually the crash site, but a one square mile patch of glacial moraine at about 16,000 feet.
