What Is the ATO Rebate?
The scheme was introduced to incentivise people to take private health insurance, such that they will get their treatment in a private hospital. The rebate is income means tested, so not everyone gets it. There are four tiers, ranging from base tier to tier four. And each tier has an income range for singles and families. If you have children as a family, then each child increases your tier income by $1,500 - which isn't very much. These numbers are accurate until June 2023. To work out your rebate, there's actually an ATO calculator, which you can use online,. I've sort of played around with it myself. It's quite useful.
