Theory of natural selection was a theory that explained how things could seem perfectly designed for environments they were in. Rorty puts it this way, quote, are the longest lasting and most frequently relied upon theories stable because they match a stable reality or because scientists get together to keep them stable. Reality is far too chaotic to ever be able to do something like that. Science is creating one version of understanding what we have access to.
