The Importance of Identity in Deep Learning

In the book, we kind of ended up distilling deep learning to three domains that when interconnected in the experience of learners tend to produce really powerful, rich, enduring learning. So one of them is the domain of identity. When kids see what is happening in school as connected to who they are, what they know and maybe what they want to become, there is something very important that happens there. We think about creativity as not just receiving knowledge but being able to produce knowledge and act on the world in some way that is doing something.
