Midsummer Night's Dream
In Shakespeare's lifetime seasonal feasts were landmarks, designating and celebrating key parts of the year. Shrove Tuesday and Mayday were two big ones and they're still observed in the country but hardly today. Today outside of a few select places and very often outside of parish towns, we don't hear singers in the towers or see Morris dancers. The Elizabethan dramas versus King Lear, Macbeth and Anthony and Cleopatra, the Jacobian dramas are interesting to compare.
