The Function of Governance in the Self-Organizing Society
The key problem is governance, like these principles of altruism cooperation. They produce free rider, free riders and edification applied all scales from the first organisms to eukaryotic to complex human societies. So basically what governance does is reflect back onto the individuals in the collective, the consequences of their actions on the collective as a whole. But then something happens when you get to a level of complex human societies where there's too little variation between them or governance structures just have them lift up to the task.
