Introduction

Jed Wohlpaw: We're going to finish up the two-part series that we started last time on opiates. Opiates were first found in terms of human history in references back as far as 3,400 BC. In the 1800s during the Civil War morphine was used for pain during the war and a huge number of soldiers became addicted. The Atlantic did an interesting piece on opiates giving kind of the history of opiates.
