The Pushback to Gender in Queer Communities
I think thinking about those different pressures that you experienced growing up, I know you grew up in Lancaster, California. Did you ever get those kind of like conflicting messages about gender or what the possibilities were for your gender? I never did. It was always the status quo, which is why I was the pushback. Everything fell in line with the traditional male, female roles. And if you deviated from that, it didn't make a difference because I wasn't expected to do or be anything. But later, you understand that your mere existence is a pushback to so much.
