The Poetics of Natural Sensitivity and Blending

In the late Edo period, I focused on two poetics that were imported from late Imperial Chinese poetry. The former is about this expression of personality by writing from personal experience of everyday life and the latter is about combining representations of the natural world with those of personal states of mind. And so both of these speak to what we could call like a heightened awareness of self and the desire to put that into words. In the Meiji period we do see even more sort of a pronounced self, right, the lyric self that's coming in through the poetry that Shiki and Saikou are reading by words worth and keets and Shelly.
