In the early days of communicative teaching, this the structured side was lost sight of. I would never like if I were a teacher to have a class where the only thing I did in that class was a bit of structure work and one kind or another. Some real life situations are a joy side easier to listen to or to read than others. And it's that side of the teaching business that hasn't developed as well as the formal side. The need to do both is essential.
