In the early days of communicative teaching, this the structured side was lost sight of. I would never like if I were a teacher to have a class where the only thing I did in that class was a bit of structure work and one kind or another. Some real life situations are a joy side easier to listen to or to read than others. And it's that side of the teaching business that hasn't developed as well as the formal side.
