Gildas was a christian, and he was describing the arrival of anglo saxons who overwhelmingly were pagan. He wanted to present them as violent, as intruders and invaders. And so he too perpetuates this notion that they were kind of dangerous and bloodthirsty after coming into britain. Then you might ask, what about these leaders? Why would they claim to be descended from these foreign invaders and usurpers.? Well, in a way, that too could serve their elite propaganda.
