The Demos and Anti-Fascism

The word democratic becomes very slippery because it becomes really detached from any kind of majoritarian sensibility. So then you have these refugees coming from Europe, this psychoanalytic practitioners who've narrowly escaped death at the hands of the Nazi murder state. And so they're quite understandably not terribly well disposed to the majority since the Nazis came to power with kind of majority support and a kind of terrifying bit of democratic legitimacy in the narrow procedural sense of having won that support.
