Up until the 19 seventies, late sixties, a gender was just a synonym for biological sex. But nowadays, gender is used to refer a different aspect of the human experience. Gender refers to psychological, social and cultural aspects of being male or female. And that can be broken down into three sub categories: identity, role and gender expression.
