"Painting an eye, no matter how well you paint, you can never paint an eye. All you can do is create the illusion of an eye," he says. "It's a dangerous thing to think in terms of making an eye when you're trying to paint one." He adds: "If we get them right, each one of those abstract shapes clicks together".
