Lee Brackett: The Queen of Space Opera
Lee Brackett is sometimes referred to as the first science section author to succeed in Hollywood. She was asked to work alongside William Faulkner and Jules Firstman on the screenplay of a 1946 film, The Big Sleep. A lot of her sci-fi space opera work was ridiculed for being lighter takes on sci-fi with these elements of romance often called pulpy.
