The History of the Hijab
The battle over the introduction of the hijab or Islamic veil was a flashpoint for the growing conflict between the two visions for Iran's future. The Islamists continued to tighten their grip on power executing people who disagreed with them. In private Shahran and her friends found ways to defy the new rules of the conservative Islamic government. "We used to go hiking walking on the mountain because Tehran is just as wonderful mountains," she says.
