The Sociocultural Dimensions of Money

At the origin of money, we have a relation of representation of death as an invisible world before and beyond life. The first kings were sacred kings who were either gods in their own right or stood as privileged mediators between human beings and the ultimate forces that governed the cosmos. In this sense, it is not just criminals who owe a debt to society. We are all in a certain sense guilty, even criminals. If nothing else, this provides a neat illustration of how different oure standards of debate in europe from those current in the anglo American world.
