The westernmost island of japan can see tiwan, and it also has a large american basis on its territory. So i think there is a realization in the government that, in one way or another, if tiwan were attacked, Japans would have to get involved. And they seem to ready to do that. But there's a lot of wiring that needs to be sauced out between the Americans and Japan.
