CHAPTER

The Impact of Emotions on Trauma Therapy

Michelle, I wanted to spend a little bit of time on talking about clinician reactions to trauma work. Like we really have to keep in mind what we're asking people to not everyone has the intuitive skills or had the developmental experiences to allow them to contain what's going to come up when they do this kind of work. A lot of clinicians are fearful or intimidated by trauma work because of the experience that very strong emotions can come up and their own discomfort with emotions can get activated. We need to be able for our clients to feel like anything that I express is normal and for us to normalize and to validate that.
